Transformed Cape

The objective for this project was to design an addition/renovation for this small cape house that would satisfy the special needs of the owners.  But equally important was the transformation of the non-descript cape into a home that reflected the new owners’ sense of style and love of the arts.  With an affinity of the arts and crafts, and shingle style homes, we blended old and new into a unique design that stands out while blending into the neighborhood.  By creating a new entry, we opened the tight first floor to create a great livingroom area.  With a dramatic change in roof pitch, we created lofty spaces on the second floor for an artist studio, and master suite.  Despite the higher peak, the original eave line is maintained to keep the house in scale with its neighbors. With attention to detail, and some playfulness with materials, the home successfully represents its owners.
